That guy can’t lift that much!

The giant concrete barbell that rests atop the roof of Venice’s iconic Muscle Beach is the ultimate destination for bodybuilders and the spectators who love them.  Located at the south end of The Venice Beach Recreation Center, Muscle Beach also refers to the area’s many infamous gyms and fitness studios, including the world famous, 150,000-foot Gold’s Gym.

Known for its legendary bodybuilders, including Arnold Schwarzenegger, the original Gold’s Gym is considered an international sports landmark and was included on ESPN’s list of America’s “100 Most Important Sports Venues.”

Located steps from the sand on Venice Beach Boardwalk, Muscle Beach Gym is one of the treasures of Venice. Once the home gym of bodybuilders Arnold Schwarzenegger and Lou Ferrigno, the newly outfitted facility still serves the community as the only outdoor weight room around.

((Fun Fact: Arnold Schwarzenegger is now the Downey Professor of State and Global Policy at USC and chairman of the Schwarzenegger Institute of State and Global Policy – ))

The equipment is well maintained by the staff of City of L.A. Recreation and Parks and a yearly pass is only $170, a week membership $50 and a $10 day rate. There are plenty of bumpers for all your Power and Olympic lifting needs and most of the bars are straight. If you are into pumping iron or just want to see a piece of living history, then stop by Muscle Beach Gym.
