(09/12/09, Venice, Ca) Venice Paparazzi spotted Venice Ball’s Jon Nash squaring off to the former NBA Houston Rockets, and current Los Angeles Lakers player Ron Artest at the Venice Beach Basketball Courts on Saturday, September 12th. Laker fans pulled out their cameras and cell phones from the sidelines to snap a few shots. After the game, Ron walked over to the sandpit and did some pull ups. A few brave Laker fans walked up to him, introduced themselves and welcomed him to L.A. About local celebrity Jon Nash. He is the co-founder of Venice Ball, the most intense street-ball competition in the world. Look out for the Venice Basketball League in the summer of 2010 at the Venice Beach Basketball Courts.

(07.11.09 Venice, Ca) White Men Can’t Jump 2-on-2 Tournament powered by Nike Hyperize Description: In honor of the iconic film White Men Can’t Jump, an homage to playground basketball that is a staple in every ballplayer’s movie collection, Nike Basketball hosted a 2-on-2 basketball tournament on Saturday, July 11th at the legendary playground courts of Venice Beach. The event featured 64 teams of the best street ballers in Southern California competing in a win-or-go-home, single-elimination bracket organized through Ballers Network for trophies, gear and a $2000 cash prize. There was a vertical jump contest featuring the Hyperize, Nike’s lightest mid-sole basketball shoe ever, and in-between games, players were able to hang out, eat and rest in the Ballers Network players lounge. Nike also released limited edition versions of the new Nike Hyperize inspired by the movie’s two main characters Billy Hoyle and Sidney Deane. The Kids Venice Basketball League (KVBL), a free summer day camp for kids, was founded in 2008 by Jon Nash of the The Venice Basketball League (VBL) as a non-profit collaborative committed to empowering the under-privileged children of Los Angeles with essential healthy life and basketball skills. As part of this year’s new program, The “Natural Leaders Camp for Kids”, children will participate in a nine-week health and leadership program, taking place every Sunday morning before The VBL games begin.

At no cost to the children or their families, KVBL kids are treated to: Yoga
instruction from world-renowned Yoga teachers; street-basketball lessons with
some of the League’s premier players and other celebrities; fitness facts and
training from Vegan body building professionals; weekly take-home health and
fitness challenges; and organic breakfasts and lunches, prepared by the children
themselves under the supervision of nutrition experts. The boys and girls of the
camp are also given the opportunity to play at the half time of one featured
league game each Sunday, allowing them to participate in the excitement of The
